Authors:
Issue Date: 4-Sep-2005
Abstract This paper discusses the Holy Hadith regarding the division of the Islamic nation into seventy three (73) parties, all of which will end up in Hell except One. It also discusses the reactions that this Holy Hadith has created amongst Muslim at political and doctrinial arenas. This paper is divided into five sections. Section one presents the legal texts which call for unity and for puffing off division. In section two, it discusses the differences which arouse amongst Muslim scholars regarding the authenticity of this Holy Hadith and which proved that the first part of this Holy Hadith does have an authentic origin, whereas the second part does not. Section three illustrates that the Moslems effective division was based on the original Islamic doctrines and not the rules that follow from such doctrines, and the number seventy three (73) mentioned in the Holy Hadith is not meant for restrictiveness, but rather, for abundance. This also shows the erroneous orientation of the former researchers in their attempts to delimit the difference between the original doctrines and their branches. Sections four and five are allocated to present the various views pertaining to that group of muslems who will escape the torture of hell. These views claimed that these escapees are not restituted to one division, and that each of these seventy three (73) divisions will have a share of ruling right , and ,being right is not fully restricted to one particular religious sect. Furthermore, the digression of some division to accuse one another of being infidels contradicts the Islamic methodology of the first righteous generation. Finally This research paper constitutes a focal point to call on the different Islamic divisions to participate in a dialogue in order to meet on some common grounds, to revive the concept of one overall party and to quit confronting one another.
