Abstract This study deals with the structure of rhythm in Ibn-Al-Rumi poetry. It mainly deals with prosody and sound issues which are represented in their patterns and rhymes in one hand and the issues stemmed out from the interrelationship between prosody and rhetoric, the knowledge of music which are generated by letters, words and structures on the other. It is worth mentioning that Ibn-Al-Rumi used common meters and rhymes in old poetry specially long, simple and complete meters. Portioned meters (rhythm) appears repeatedly in his poetry, but he used the irregular rhymes and used to construct highly irregular rhymes against the easy going ones which constitute the majority of his collection. Secondly, he sometimes committed himself to what it should not be followed in the rhyme, therefore, he is considered as an echo of Abi-Ala`-Al-Mari despite the fact that he is well aware of the rhyme defects. Thirdly, there are some interrelated issues in his poetry between rhyme and rhythm such as turning the end to be contrasted with the beginning of the poetic line, studding and embroidery. Finally, it is clear in his internal music, which is generated by the choice of words that makes adequacy between its letters, structure and his consecutive meters with which he makes one solid musical structure. This study for the structure of rhythm in the poetry of Ibn-Al-Rumi revolves around the meter and the rhythm (external music) and addressed the common issues between rhyme and prosody and to identify the music generated by the letters, words and compositions (internal music)as well. The approach that has been adopted in this study is, in one hand, statistical; i.e. tracking the vocal and rhyme issues in his poetry, but it is analytical on the other hand to highlight the technical level in the composition of his poetry. key words: structure , rhythm , poetry , Ibn-Al-Rumien_US
