وأثره على منتغمري هذا البحث یتناول أدب العصور الوسطى المتعلق بدراسة الإسلام ومحمد
في أدب العصور الوسطى، وكذلك في كتابات وات. وقد احتوى هذا البحث الحدیث عن محمد
مونتغمري وات، ومدى تأثر وات بذلك.
وقد خلصت الدراسة إلى نتائج أهمها أن وات قد كان متأثراً جداً بأدب العصور الوسطى ولكنه قام
بتقدیم ذلك بثوب جدید وٕان لم یختلف المضمون، حیث كرر النظریات الثلاث التي ظهرت في كتابات
،(Polemical theory) وهي النظریة الهجومیة أو الجدلیة ، العصور الوسطى فیما یتعلق بمحمد
.(Borrowing theory) والنظریة النقلیة والاقتباسیة ،(Patological theory) والنظریة المرضیة
Abstract
This work deals with the image of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), in the
medieval literature and it is influence on William Montgomery Watt.
In this work, I have reached to conclusion that W. M. Watt had been influenced by the
medieval Iitteture, so he had adopted the three theories appeared in the Medieval Iiterature
concerning `prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him, these are, the polemical theory, the
pathological theory and the Borrowing theory.
